This traditional Bavarian guest house is set in the picturesque mountain village of Grainau, 5 km from the winter sports resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and 4 km from the charming Lake Eibsee. Gasthof Höhenrain first opened in 1922 and reopened in May 2017. The rooms are well equipped and decorated in a cosy, eco-friendly style. Most rooms offer stunning views of the Wetterstein mountains and the Zugspitze summit. The hotel restaurant serves traditional European cuisine. Breakfast is served every morning, before a day of skiing in the mountains or sunbathing by the lake. A new, spacious breakfast room has been open since January 2018. Evenings can be spent at the lobby bar playing billiards, chess or cards, or relaxing in the hunting room with a book and a glass of wine. In fine weather, refreshments can be enjoyed outdoors in the beer garden. In summer, hiking, mountain climbing, cycling and canoeing are popular, while in the colder months a variety of winter sports are available.
